GUE Technical Diver Level 1 -course (later T1) is
the entry level technical diving course of GUE. The aim of the course is to
familiarize the diver to the secrets of the deeper, decompression dives. T1
open up possibilities among others to safely explore the superb, a bit deeper
wrecks on the Gulf of Finland, like Munin, Sandvike or Eira.
T1 is taught over six days, during which a
minimum of 40 hours of tuition is undertaken. The course includes lectures, dry
runs, skills and drills underwater, and a minimum of three trimix dives. As it’s
the norm within GUE, also this course includes a swim and a free diving test.
The prerequisites for the course are a tech
pass from the GUE Fundamentals and a minimum of 100 dives beyond open water
certification. The candidate must be non-smoking. On top of the equipment used
during the Fundamentals-course, the diver needs a deco gas cylinder with a
regulator and a suit inflation cylinder with regulator. Your instructor will be
happy to assist you to choose the suitable equipment.
During the course you’ll learn how to use
different breathing a deco gasses. You shall practice the skills necessary for
safe technical diving, like recognizing and solving the problems associated
with the use of double tanks and decompression gasses. After completion of the
class, you’ll have the required knowledge and skill to conduct dives to a
maximum depth of 51 meters, the maximum length of the decompression stops being
30 minutes. The dives will be conducted using trimix (21/35 or 18/45) in back
gas and one deco gas (EAN50 or O2).
This class can be arranged either in Finland or
abroad (for example in Malta, Italy, Croatia, Egypt, etc.). The first training
dives of the course are done in no more than 10 meters of depth, which means
almost any dive site with a decent visibility will do. On the way towards the
trimix dives, there’ll be ascent training from a bit deeper water and a
location with 30 meters of water is optimal. The experience dives are conducted
on suitable sites with the depth ranging from 40 to 51 meters. All and all, the
course can be run anywhere, where the aforementioned is possible and the gas logistics
are functioning.
Technical diving has no intrinsic value, it’s
just another tool to get you to places. If you think there are such places,
past your limits, where you would absolutely want to go, technical diving might
be the solution. Get in touch and we shall discus, whether technical diving could
be something for you!
